Isn't there space on the approaches to Paddington for two further
tracks (former Birmingham line), now largely occupied by taxi stabling
and the like. Wouldn't that then be by far the cheaper way to get to
Old Oak Common, especially seeing Crossrail will free up a lot of
platform space in Paddington. Why the fixation with Euston?

Bit easier to demolish Euston than Paddington. *Have you seen the plans
for Euston? *Rather more than just a couple of extra tracks - they're
talking 10 high speed rail platforms extending nearly down to Euston
Road (i.e. blitzing the current concourse and bus station) and 13
'classic' platforms on the east. *The whole thing eats a couple of
streets on the west side, and given a billion quid you'd hope they'd
finally link it up to Euston Square underground while they're at it.

I'm not sure you could get away with that at Paddington. *In London
terms it's a staggering change. *They'll probably stick up a propylaeum
while they're at it to get the crusties on side.

A rebuild of Euston! How perfect! I doubt any of this will happen,
but the idea of losing the polsonite box on Euston Road does have some
appeal, especially if Euston Square Station is linked in, AND we have
the propylaeum back.
