Apparently he can, and he's telling lies anyway. The National Rail
website is offering these prices for a return ticket:

£202.70, the cheapest off-peak fare.
£255.00, the cheapest off-peak first class
£292.00, for a return ticket
£384.00, for a first class return ticket.
