I think if
anyone had predicted the current levels of usage back then they'd
have been consigned to a mental institution.

But then so would anyone who predicted levels of immigration even
approaching those seen in the nineties and noughties. And I suggest the
2 are not unrelated , esapecially if you look at the importance of the
NLL for Newham and Hackney.
