I don't think its a running tunnel , it doesn't look big enough, but
then
its hard to tell just looking out the window into the dark.
The bit you can see is a blocked up tube tunnel where the original
line
was diverted. There is also one on the west/southbound but not quite
as obvious (well, to the driver anyway).
Others will be along to be able to say exactly which old line it was.
The eastbound Picc uses it's original alignment and platform.
The northbound Victoria uses the former westbound Piccadilly platform.
The westbound Piccadilly uses the former northbound GN&C platform.
The southbound Victoria uses the former southbound GN&C platform.
Note the larger than usual diameter of the last two station tunnels built to
accommodate mainline loading gauge rolling stock.
