On George Orwell's "1984"
Sure, one of the best novels of the past century. Strongly based on the
coming reality.
Of Soviet Russia.
No, but he drew lots of his own experience in the Spanish civil war,
where the GPU acted as an openly counterrevolutionary force. His "Homage
to Catalunya" is the book which earned him the deadly hostility of the
stalinists.
Orwell knew what he was writing about.
Which is more than you do.
Well, he made his experience with the BBC by working for it. I am
only an observer.
But as the title says, it is a book about the future. We are beginning
to see it becoming reality. "1984" is more up to date than it ever was.
Cheers,
L.W.
