Most didn't really understand the power and influence that a London Mayor
could weild and aside from "Ken" (Who had a track record of failures) had
never even heared of the various other contenders

If their lack of knowledge of the other contenders was that incomplete, they
should have done the decent thing and abstained. Frank Dobson and Glenda
Jackson for example are hardly non-entitites in politics (either London or
national) and they were both candidates.
