Lots of companies are dropping support for older versions of IE, because
maintaining IE version specific code costs money, and because very few
people use those older versions. 8 in particular is being dropped
quickly, because it's apparently the last version that Windows XP can
run - and Microsoft's XP support ends in one week's time.
