ps There were stern tannoys at Euston tube station today, about avoiding
"card clash", as well as numerous posters. What I'm not sure is what
happens if someone not on the trial tries a contactless card. Perhaps
it's just rejected.
I suspect it would work and you would be charged correctly, providing you
touched in/out at all the right places etc. It would be an interesting
experiment to try but if you were stopped by a ticket inspector you
might want to have an alternative valid ticket to show so would end up
paying twice.
Or you might not and might end up spending hours bouncing between your
credit card issuer and TfL arguing about a refund.
https://contactless.tfl.gov.uk/ says you can see 7 days of history even
if you haven't signed up for an online account. Someone brave with a
few pounds to spare could be an uninvited pilot user.
It would currently be rejected.
Is that wishful thinking?
We hear all the time that machines can only store a limited amount of "top
up" data as the details can't be access online in real time.
Yet here we are being told that the number of the (cards of the) thousand or
so people in the trial are either available in real time or are stored in
every machine on the network.
