Just wondering... did the person who decided that the Fleet
Line should be renamed the Jubilee Line get their knighthood?
Many people think that the Jubilee's colour is silver; in fact it is
officially grey.
Grey being the general substitute for silver when painting rolling stock. LT
discovered that silver paint didn't work very well on the R stock and
switched to grey. East Coast made a similar discovery more recently and did
the same.
Silver would be possible but very expensive for Tube maps and would give a
false prominence to what was, until the JLE, one of the shortest tube
lines.
Surely EC was trying a metallic grey, not silver? But it switched o a
very dull grey. The Virgin Pendolinos have more of a silver look, as do
some Virgin Atlantic aircraft (the airline has very inconsistent liveries).
