Default Chaos likely when they close ticket windows at King's Cross St. Pancras

I can see a candidate claiming that they will reopen ticket offices and
then come up with a budget just for one or two zone 1 stations if elected.

Presumably the main users of ticket offices are tourists and visitors who
don't have a vote in the mayoral election.

But people running businesses in London, and their employees, have a
vested interest in tourists not being treated badly and failing to
return (or even come in the first place if they've heard bad reports).
