Just out of interest, following Mikes directions we get to Parliment Square
which is just near Downing street - what happens if you try and go down
there?

Do they have road blocks and stuff so only authorised personnel can enter?

If you even try and stop on the road outside you will be moved on. I
really would not even attempt to stop in a car at any point on Whitehall
and then attempt to take a photo.
