NOT such a clever idea for Nokia users (maybe others too).

If you save the same number under two different names (like Girlfriend
and ICE), then caller ID gets confused and no longer displays the name
of the person calling because it now has a choice of two, just their
number...

When *my* phone shows "ICE" I know exactly who is calling me, but
that's because I am blessed with the wit to remember who I set that
to. I find it hard to believe that I could meet someone stupid enough
to get confused by that, even on Usenet.

Why the **** would I want 'ICE' calling showing on my phone twice a day
ad infinitum, for some flash in the pan idea that will be forgotton in 6
months? Thats the point.

I'm sure medics are clever enough to flick thru a phone and look for MUM
or DAD rather than **** about with ICE!

Are they clever enough to look for whatever your first name is in your
wife's phone?

This is the other point, how many medics do you see/hear of frantically
searching thru mobile phones for contact details? None, last thing they
need to worry about is phoning your missus to say 'he's almost dead, but
we stopped life saving treatment to give you a buzz (instead of him!)'
If you have a medical condition, chances are you'll have a SOS bracelet.
Also, you'll probably have a wallet with your details in it.
You MAY be a phone thief and stolen the mobile FFS.

And if your dead, do you think they phone your missus and tell her over
the phone?, no they find out your address and send the police round to
do it personally. How does having her number help them find her.
"Err, pizza delivery, we've lost your address, see you in half an hour!"

Sorry, the ICE idea is just ****e from beginning to end, but if it keeps
a few dozy souls happy that they are doing something worthwhile, carry on!
