It isn't generally that kind of glass - it's more usually strengthened
to result in it *not* breaking if someone hits it. This is usually a
benefit in most train accidents, as people are safer inside the
vehicle than thrown out of, and often then under, it.
Recall the demonstration on Watchdog about someone attempting to put
through a domestic double-glazed window using various pieces of heavy
furniture, and failing miserably? This resulted in it becoming a
legal requirement to have at least one "escape window" upstairs in a
house with an opening sufficient to climb through, as it is quite
simply that difficult to break it.
In a bomb situation, metal is as likely to disintegrate as this kind
of reinforced glass, and shards of flying metal are probably almost as
dangerous as glass.
