Perhaps most bizarrely, Oakwood (which opened as
"Enfield West" and was "Enfield West (Oakwood)" for
many years" almost found itself named "Southgate North"!
I just found out that Laings estate to the east of the station was called
Southgate North estate, although I can't say which came first.
