Have you read Vanity Fair? IIRC Amelia Sedley's parents have a cottage
"in the country" at Brompton, to which she retires after George Osborne
dies.

Even at the time of the Battle of Waterloo, Brompton/Knightsbridge would
probably have not been described as "in the country". There are several
"Bromptons" in southern England, including one in Kent which was familiar
to Dickens.
