Default Zone extensions with Oyster?

Surely this will cause problems at times when the gates are open because

The station tends to get busy at the end of the event with people
trying to get home. Often they leave the gates shut to regulate the
number of people getting to the platfrom. People exiting the station
isn't usually a problem as people often arrive over a longer period
of time. (All in my experience)

Surely everybody stopping to have their
Oysters scanned is going to reduce throughput somewhat.

Sounds like it will but what is the alternative? Don't introduce
PAYG?
