No tunnelling if the lines were permanently paired, which is what a
split would entail. With the current service pattern, you'd need to
move the junction between the southbound Edgware/Barnet lines to be
north of the platforms, which however you did it (new junction
further north, new platforms further south, or most likely both) would
be insanely expensive.
