Default Stagecoach win East Midlands franchise

In message , at 19:07:13 on Sun, 24
Jun 2007, Mike the unimaginative remarked:
Why, oh, why terminate at Corby, why not run most / some /
all services on to Melton Mowbray?

What's the track like (speed and single/double)?

What have the people of Melton done to deserve being ignored in this
way?

Subcontract most of their Pork Pie manufacturing to a trading estate on
the edge of Leicester?

Surely it can't be to do with paths - or is it more to do with platform
length at Melton (can't say I've ever been on the station there)?

I've been there and it's neither memorably long nor short. Should be
plenty of room for a 4/5 car Meridian.
