In latest fire-related-chaos news, this:

Inadequate satnav?

When I first glanced at the pic I was hoping it was a fire engine! Is it
possible (looking at the BBC's pic) that the bus driver was
unaware of the meaning of the whitelines painted on the brickwork
above the centre of the arch, or was he too high anyway? Although at
9am he probably wasn't the first bus along?

I'd imagine it wasn't his first trip under the bridge, it was just
the first time he forgot to drive in the middle.

Yup - the BBC site has an update including:

A Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson said buses had been using the
route under the arched bridge safely for 24 hours before the crash
happened. The bus was diverted because of road closures.
He said: "The route is a recognised diversion route and drivers know to
drive straight through the middle."
