I cam through paddington late last night and they were installing new
ticket barriers for the far platforms (the high numbers, I forget
which platforms they are).
Just incase anyone is interested )

Its for the upcoming Oyster rollout

That's certainly not the primary purpose of the new ticket gates,
which is to tackle ticket-less travel - limited future acceptance of
Oyster PAYG on FGW trains out of Paddington is more of a by-product of
this.

I wonder if there are any plans to accept Oyster PAYG on Heathrow
Connect between Hayes and Heathrow, or on Heathrow Express. I would
imagine similar treatment to Watford Junction where Travelcards are
concerned. I could envisage the Express premium being collected either
through separate platform validators, or on-train validators.
