PAYG South East to Bank

This would be helpful anyway, but it's not going to happen because of
what is happening at Bank - it will happen as and when Southeastern
and Southern eventually agree to accept Oyster PAYG.
Is what's happening at Bank that insane? Escalators need to have heavy
maintenance done on them from time to time after all.
Could the readers on the NR barriers at Cannon Street be programmed
for this or heavy sarcasmwould Cannon Street have to be closed for
six months for the installation of standalone readers, accompanied by
the closure of Blackfriars, Charing Cross, Waterloo and Victoria due
to anticipated passenger flows, making London safer for the people who
have to go there by discouraging people from going there?/heavy
sarcasm
Installation of standalone Oyster readers at ungated stations doesn't
seem to require much of an upheaval at all - they do of course need to
be wired up to a reliable power source and have some sort of
communications link as well, but AFaICS it's not something that CTS
make a meal over doing.
Changing the topic slightly, I'm curious as to whether a plain vanilla
phone line can be used for the communications link, and if so whether
it has to be a dedicated line or if it can be shared with other kit
(e.g. ticket machine systems) or even people (i.e. staff)...
