Is what's happening at Bank that insane? Escalators need to have
heavy maintenance done on them from time to time after all.
Yes. *Totally insane. *I am referring to the deliberate closure of
routes with no escalators and the principle of inconveniencing
passengers unnecessarily in order to discourage them from using a
station.
TfL's priority should be to provide safe and environmentally-friendly
transport in London. *Instead, their priority seems to be to make one
tiny patch totally safe with no consideration of the effects on the
safety and efficacy of the rest of transport in London.
Are we sure that the closed passages are not being used in connection with
the escalator works? *It seems to me quite possible that a multiple
escalator replacement/refurbishment project would be completed more quickly
if there was more space available for materials and equipment during the
project.
Very unlikely, because they are far from the works and both link the
Central Line platforms with other passageways that are in use.
What I cannot easily excuse is deliberately concealing from the public that
the interchange route from the western end of the District platforms to the
Northern Line is open as usual. It even had "Central Line" signed that way
at Monument today despite that part of the sign being individually
illuminated. *Perhap they can't find the 'off' switch!
You can get to the Central eventually, but might just as well use the
street.
