Given this new station on the H&C seems to be literally a stones
throw from White City on the central , wouldn't it have made more
sense to call it white city rather than having another daft
Bank-Monument situation?

An alternative view is that White City should be revert to its old
name given that the stadium is long gone.

Er.. White City (Central Line) opened as White City in 1947. What
could it revert to?

Are you thinking of the earlier H&C White City (ex Wood Lane)
behind the BBC?

The White City station opened in 1947 was a rebuild, admittedly on a
slightly different site, of Wood Lane station and is in Wood Lane. The
old H&C White City was nearer the old Wood Lane than that White City and
the new Wood Lane is nearer to White City station than the old White City
H&C station was.
