There's a village called Wivenhoe, in the depths of Essex. It's,
well, mostly harmless, really.

So why is there a street called Wivenhoe Court in Hounslow? He

And why is there another one in Frome, Somerset? He

In the latter case, there seems to be an estate with streets whose
names all start with a 'wi' sound, and i suppose whoever did the
names just came across Wivenhoe in a gazetter or something.

The former is more of a puzzle. None of the names of surrounding
streets have any link that i can see. A MYSTERY!

In the USA it's said that building estate developers always name the
streets after the things that their new estate has destroyed.

Perhaps this developer wished the borders to be maintained using a
particular garden implement?

I made much the same pun once - in a school assembly, when i was about
eight. Make of that what you will!
