I thought I remembered seeing somewhere that a direct service from
Woolwich Arsenal to Canary Wharf was planned. However I can't find any
reference to this on the Transport for London web site.

Maybe this will only be possible once the Delta Junction works are
completed? On the TfL web site for this project, it says that the new
junction will "Allow DLR to introduce new services in the future".

Anybody else heard anything about this?
