The latter mentions the car dealerships, a vestige of an earlier phase
of the company when it was T Cowie Group - is Arriva still in that
business too?

I'm pretty sure they've divested all the cowie stuff - van leasing etc.,
too - with the possible exception of their DAF bus import dealership.

That was still active until 2007 - it supplied buses on Arriva's route 393 -
but a glance at their website shows a painfully aged bus, and still shows a
2007 date!
