Anyone else heard about this huge former LU substation under embankment?
http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/s...on/index.shtml Quite an impressive space. I'm surprised its not used for anything. In real estate terms it must be worth a fortune. B2003 |

In real estate terms it must be worth a fortune. B2003 Its part of page's walk, which terrifies a lot of people - its reckoned to be haunted. http://www.csi-ghost.co.uk/Pages%20Walk%20Page1.htm Here's a bit of a documentary about it (and other haunted bits of london) - unfortunately it doesn't mention the cavern - the last 1.8 minutes (from 7:50) of this part - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KTB_...eature=related continued as the first 2.5 minutes of this part - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O53iJ...eature=related What interests me, though is this picture - http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/s.../index18.shtml Here's a picture of the same area from higher up - http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/s.../index18.shtml According to the text, this - the arched doorway in the air (on the upper right of the second picture) - is the only way to the district line. Given that page's walk is the original connection between the district and the bakerloo, how did passengers get from the substation entrance (on the bakerloo side) to the arched doorway - presumably it didn't involve that ladder? |

[Given that page's walk is the original connection between the district
and the bakerloo, how did passengers get from the substation entrance (on the bakerloo side) to the arched doorway - presumably it didn't involve that ladder?] From the Platforms, the passageway made an incline and took the 15 steps, turned right and took another 9 (I think) steps that led to a basement booking hall for the Bakerloo line. This in turn took more steps to the Distict Booking hall area, as they both shared the same building entrance & exit. It looks like the substation was built well into the basement booking hall.
