You know, I have to say that I rather enjoy the lack of planes in the
sky. I can't recall when I have seen the skies so clear and when they
have been so silent.

Guess you don't work at the airport, nor have to fly anywhere tomorrow!

Apparently making such an observation means you're a whinging fool...

Possibly a bit of an intemperate contribution from moi, but not so
totally ridiculous in the context of other parts of this thread.

The skys are clearer. Haven't you noticed the lack of vapour trails or do
you never look up?

It's the lack of [rain] clouds which does that.

Normally on a day like this the sky over london would be a hazy fog of smeared
out vapour trails.

The skies are even clearer in NYC! The day before the eruption I
remember looking out the window in the morning and commenting to my DH
that there are many criss-crosses of con trails up there. That I'd never
seen so many. The next day - boom! Interesting. Not a plane in the sky
here, either, and there used to be so many you could set your watch by
them.

I'm taking this personally, btw, as I watch the calender get nearer my
departure date :-0

You realise the last eruption of this particular volcano went on for a year?
