Lucky to be struck by a train and receive minor injuries. Couldn't
have been a slam door anyway!

Sadly, press reports in the last few hours suggest it was a failed
suicide attempt by the MP.

I'm told it was the mainline Gatwick Express.

Anyone know why he was at Victoria, given that he's MP for Bury St Edmunds
in Suffolk?

In the normal course of events it is very difficult to suffer injury

Somewhat poor choice of the word "terminal", if I may so bold to say.

It's the nearest mainline station to his London flat (in Pimlico).

MPs have committments up and down the country; fortunately they're not (all)
mere parochial parish pump politicians with no perspective beyond the
boundaries of their constituency.

The angle's not right for Bury St Edmunds, but if the train had hit him
just right, he might have landed in Ely.

Because the reason he wasn't going to Bury St Edmunds wasn't to have an
orgy with tabloid quality "voters" complete with photos in "minimalistic"
clothing.

It was unintentional. It had not crossed my mind until you pointed it
out.

I am struggling to think of another appropriate term to describe such a
design of station.

The Bitter End (or The Bittern End if it's in East Anglia).

Sadly, press reports in the last few hours suggest it was a failed suicide
attempt by the MP.

"Ruffley was known to have been devastated that he missed out on a post in
David Cameron's new cabinet due to the prime minister having to find room
for coalition partner Liberal Democrat MPs."

"Mr Ruffley was also said to have been humiliated by revelations during the
MP's expenses scandal where he came in for severe criticism for claims that
he had made."

It sounds like attempting suicide isn't the only thing he's not very good
at.

Doing that at Victoria is just silly, given how slowly the things go
there. Much better to hop onto a train to, eg, South Croydon, and jump
in front of one of the many trains that zoom through without stopping.

Even better, of course, to not be such an inconsiderate *******, and
just off yourself by slipping a sharp kitchen knife between your ribs
and into the heart. Do it in the bath to make it easier for your
landlord to clean up the mess.
