The Acton Town to Uxbridge services will become part of the District Line, with all Piccadilly trains going to Heathrow. Interesting rumour mill John - not heard any of that from within LUL. I must find myself a better source. I heard that the Victoria Line was next for new stock.. I know what C and D is, so maybe that's A...... 'fraid not, A is A60 as used on the Met... A stock is the Met main and East london line C H&C D DIstrict Incidentally, the letters stand for Amersham, Circle and District. Were supposed to be getting new stock starting with the met main in 2012. Its gonna be the same stock for all of ssl. The only difference will be the number of carridges. Met 8, Distict 7 and h&c an circle will have 6. So the carriage length will be the same as now? What will be the curved platform solution.... movable footplates on trains... or on platforms? -- John Rowland - Spamtrapped Transport Plans for the London Area, updated 2001 http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro...69/tpftla.html A man's vehicle is a symbol of his manhood. Why would that cause a problem? in times of Q, R, CP and other 1930's stock the peak service were made up of 8 cars. |

om... "John Rowland" wrote in message ... Hi all, The rumour mill says that the new surface stock should be ready to replace the A, C and D stocks in 2013, and that it will also be used on South London Metro services. You can't have a 4th rail train running over 3rd rail lines because the centre shoe will foul points without a ramp to lift it over Shoes are sometimes (always?) retractable. ISTR Eurostars have to retract their shoes in France or they would lose them. Also you need lots of doors on stock on the circle line because of the number of crowds but on the met and on south london mainline services passengers won't be happy standing for hours because of the lack seats. I heard some time ago that the stock would have short articulated carriages of three types: with cab, cabless standing and cabless seated. Every train would have two cabs and both types of cabless segment, but the proportion of the types of cabless segment would vary between different lines. -- John Rowland - Spamtrapped Transport Plans for the London Area, updated 2001 http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro...69/tpftla.html A man's vehicle is a symbol of his manhood. Hi all, The rumour mill says that the new surface stock should be ready to replace the A, C and D stocks in 2013, and that it will also be used on South London Metro services. It will have some method of dealing with curved platforms I forsee a problem with that. Will it be 4th rail or 3rd? You can't have a 4th rail train running over 3rd rail lines because the centre shoe will foul points without a ramp to lift it over and you can't have a 3rd rail stock running on 4th rail as the return current in the wheels will bugger up the signalling (except on places where the libe was originally 3rd rail such as the bakerloo north of queens park). Also you need lots of doors on stock on the circle line because of the number of crowds but on the met and on south london mainline services passengers won't be happy standing for hours because of the lack seats. My guess is the basic design will be the same but with differences for different lines. B2003 |
