Victoria Line to shut this weekend

And why not? It's not as if a significant proportion of the people in
Tottenham and Brixton were planning on trying to get to Notting Hill...
Numerous other bits of lines shut too, including one of the platforms at
Latimer Road shut for lengthening work! AFAIR there has been no closures
on any part of LU in previous years... If it's a Boris decision, it's a
strange one.

For Totterers, and others in the vicinity of the Lea Valley lines, the
best route is surely down to Liverpool Street and the Central line anyway?
From Brixton itself, train to Victoria and Circle round the corner seems
just as good as a Victoria line route, and for the other stations down
there, the alternatives are not as good, but do exist.

Now that *is* an odd decision.

Maybe. He's got a track record in doing for festivals - see Rise - so
maybe he's siding with the Notting Hill NIMBYs and trying to strangle the
carnival too.

Would anyone apart from drug dealers and trendy lefties give a damn if the
carnival vanished?

As for Rise - it was just another left wing political statement dressed
up as entertainment. Why should the taxpayer fund it?

Given the vast number of people who go to Carnival (presumably) out of
their own free-will, I'd say 'yes', quite a few people would give a
damn.

You can't argue with the sheer number of people who will be going,
this year. Very few of whom will be drug dealers. I'd expect there are
people from all parts of the political spectrum there, too ... so not
just 'lefties'.

Its free. Make them may the price of the V festival or glastonbury and then
see how many show up. I'd wager there'd be more people on the floats than
in the crowd.

The Victoria line is running normally on the Bank Holiday Monday which
is the main carnival day although it is closed on Sunday.

best route is surely down to Liverpool Street and the Central line

Latimer Road will have a platform closed for nearly a year. Currently
trains are not stopping westbound, in December they will start on the
eastbound platform. I don't think it is feasible to reopen the plaform
for two days when they are in the middle of completely rebuilding it.

Though there are the usual special bus services - eg the 2X, from
Norwood via Brixton, and then non-stop from Hyde Park Corner to
Notting Hill Gate.

It's been closed for a while, is closed now and will be until
December. Not just this weekend.

I slouch corrected.
