What's pollution or congestion got to do with it? The toll is for providing
an alternative, quicker, route around Birmingham, nothing more. The
exemption for disabled drivers is a PR stunt.

Seconded, and I have a blue badge.

A high I.Q is like a Jeep. You still get stuck, just further from help.

I've never known a supermarket car park where the areas further out
(although not much further out) from the shop aren't almost completely
empty. Park there if you want lots of space.

Also if you park further out you are less likely to have your car bashed and
scratched by trolleys.

Assuming you'd parked there, would your car have had any visible
sign of your wife being pregnant?

It actually would (in this instance) because we've put the baby seat
in the back, because there's no convenient place to store it in the
house.
If we'd been in my car, the seat wouldn't have been in the back.

Intriguing...

How does the presence (or absence) of a baby seat in a car indicate a
pregnant driver or passenger?

I had to stop in at Tescos a while back, driving a LWB Sprinter with a car
trailer on the back. WAY down at the far end, I finally found sufficient
spaces to tuck the bloody thing in, roughly straight (well, taking up three
spaces and quarter of an aisle).

I came out, to find cars parked in ALL the spaces next to me! Aaaagh! Oh,
and many empty spaces all around.

Yes, I did get it out without touching anything. Just

If it's PR stunt why hasn't it been mentioned on the news, local or
national and how is it that that only way I found out about it was when
looking around the M6 Toll road web site?

No need. They'll accept a bit of a bad back.

Now that's ironic as driving just makes my back worse.

But only when doing business mileage. :-)

You get one of those if you pass the IAM truck test. Are congratulations
in order? :-)

I think it's more a case of avoiding a PR disaster.

I believe we get shorter as we get older, so the answer is probably yes.

No problem then. I just got the impression from your post that it

as you're pretty much OK then there's no point.

nah, it's fine now. But when it happened, my god. agony. Just about
the only time it was OK was ironically driving, because my legs are
stretched out in front. Work was tolerable, as I sit all day, but
walking, or even just standing was absolute agony.

You'll probably still be up for a free dedicated parking space outside your
front door though ;-)

Have a small, crappy car.
Both problems solved.

Try Tesco in Gateshead. If it is any approaching peak hours.. forget it. You
will not find a space.

Asda Cockhedge Warrington, on a Sunday.
the only day that the car park is completley free, instead of getting
your ticket stamped at Asda (no other shops on the park can stamp it).

Can't get a space on there after 11.30, until about 3.30. You see
legions of lost souls driving round waiting for someone to move.
