With one exception all transport systems in the UK are privately owned
and/or managed. Why should the roads be any different? |

With one exception all transport systems in the UK are privately owned
and/or managed. Why should the roads be any different? As Tom says, they shouldn't be. Alistair "Smug" Darling is the only person happy with building toll roads, because it saves him a bit of cash. |

They are run as a separate business in practical terms, however. I believe the few other remaining municipal bus companies (Rossendale and Reading are the ones I can think of; there may be others) are the same. Also, what about Newcastle Metro?
