We're not talking about some cultural loyalty, we're talking about whether
it is reasonable to expect such a person to have the loyalty adhere to a set
of rules (rules which you seem to think are draconian and I do not - but
only when taking into account the salary level)

In my experience the more people are paid, the more they consider that
such "rules" don't apply to them. They may also be more flexible about
turning out to do work things when otherwise expecting to be on a break,
but that's a different issue.

I don't think it's reasonable for an employer to expect it. After all,
employers aren't loyal to staff.

The only exceptions are the armed forces and their ilk, which still
aren't loyal to their employees even though they can, and do, expect
loyalty from them.
