Sorry i don't mean on the underground, i was thinking of all the coffee shops and pubs a couple of years ago i was able to use completely free until the big networks frightened them with stories of abuse and sold them their secure systems. I haven't seen an open wifi in months, all WPA now Wetherspoon still has free wi-fi. At least until 27th November 2019. http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/...ons/free-wi-fi -- jhk |

That way they can say they are providing "free" Wifi Steve Terry -- Get a free GiffGaff PAYG Sim and £5 bonus after activation at: http://giffgaff.com/orders/affiliate/gfourwwk |

I last used wi-fi in a Wetherspoon in the summer of 2010. It wasn't limited to an hour back then. The last couple of times I have been to London I have used Three's £15 one month all-you-can-eat data offer. -- jhk |

I wonder if you have to re-sign-in after an hour; I've come across hotspots like that. -- Roland Perry |

Subway systems in other parts of the world have been able to achieve this, apparently without too much difficulty. Subway systems in the rest of the world don't operate in 12ft diameter tube tunnels. Surely a leaky feeder cable doesn't care about the diameter, or depth, of the tunnel? Anyway, I'm not impressed. I've already paid for mobile data and don't see a need to pay for it again (in fact I pay Virgin Media for my TV but don't have their broadband so don't expect to get anything free there). The amount of data I have at the price makes WiFi almost irrelevant, and I often have to turn it off anyway given the number of apparently duff FON hotspots. Why can't we have 3G or better in the stations instead? I'm still surprised that the HS1 tunnels (or even the Channel Tunnel) don't have mobile coverage. Does GSM-R make it easier, more troublesome or have no effect on the ability to provide coverage? Richard. |
