Hello all,
We are taking the underground from Heathrow Airport with the ending destination of Chester. From looking at a map, we will need to take the Heathrow Underground (from terminal 3) to Euston station, then catch a train from Euston to Chester. My question is: which Euston station is a National Rail station? There are three on the Tube's website.(Charing Cross, Square, City Branch). I was hoping there was a direct train but it doesn't look like there is.... any suggestions? TIA, Jen |

My question is: which Euston station is a National Rail station? There are three on the Tube's website.(Charing Cross, Square, City Branch). Just plain "Euston" is on the both branches of the Northern line and on the Victoria line, and will take you directly into the National Rail station. Euston Square is less convenient if you have luggage as it is several minutes' walk away. I was hoping there was a direct train but it doesn't look like there is.... any suggestions? The most direct tube route is Piccadilly line from Heathrow and change to the Victoria line at Green Park. The interchange there is all underground but it is not ideal if you are carrying a lot of luggage. An alternative would be to transfer to the Northern line at Leicester Square - but the Northern can get very crowded at some times of day! If you have ample transfer time it may be worth considering taking the airbus which runs directly from all four terminals at Heathrow to Euston, as this will involve no change. There are two buses an hour and it would be wise to allow 90 minutes for the journey as London roads are rather congested! -- Paul Terry |

Another alternative would be to take the Piccadilly to Kings Cross, and then either the Northern or Victoria line one stop to Euston (from memory I think the Northern line would be the easier one to change to at Kings Cross) Martin |

A third option would be to change at King's Cross St.Pancras. The journey will be a bit longer, but the change will be rather simpler - a short escalator from platform level to platform level. -- Clive D.W. From the Piccadilly Line platforms at King's Cross there's a short escalator down to the Northern Line. (whereas changing to the Victoria involves going up some stairs) PaulO |

There's another way of looking at this. Take the coach from the central
bus station to Watford Junction (one station out of London for the Chester trains) then take the train to Chester. How well the journey would wok is going to depend on the time of the day. For a start, the coach needs to circumnavigate London on a road which can become very congested during peak hours and I'm not sure how many direct trains there are or if a change of train would be required and what the issues with such a change would be. See http://www.nationalexpress.com/ for the buses and http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/planmyjourney/ for train times. -- ***** *****The "return to" address embedded in this mail is wrong as an antispam measure.
