I'm surprised that it did not happen sooner, rather than later, however. Infant mortality in electronic, electrical, mechanical and electro- mechanical systems is a well known reliability issue at the systems level. Well, it was when I did ONC Testing Methods and Reliability in 1984, I don't know if modern engineers are still taught such things. In this case, I hear, it was a sensor that failed. No back up one then presumably. Probably saved a fiver. B2003 |

I've not yet been on it -- do you know if the cars are air-conditioned? |

One wonders why the copywriters did not see the opportunity they presented people for some bad puns. They did not report that two men were fighting on the roof of the cable car and one of them fell to his death but had a parachute. No, that's "operational difficulties". A "technical problem" is where one of them bites through the cable with his teeth causing the gondola to fall to the river below but lands in a passing weather balloon. Theo |

Not good if you already suffer from vertigo, though the trip itself is more like looking out of a plane that climbing a tall building I've been on plenty of Swiss gondelbahn, and generally they aren't air-conditioned, but do have opening windows so you get a nice breeze and may be able to take distortion-free pictures, depending on how wide the windows open. But getting stuck in a little capsule over the Thames on a hot day may be a bit unpleasant. |
