Have I missed this being reported he
http://www.networkrail.co.uk/news/20...aves-way-GOBE/ "Vital work paves the way for electrification of the Gospel Oak to Barking line" .... "Due to the scale and complex nature of the work, a phased eight-month closure of the line is necessary, starting in June 2016. This consists of a part closure from early June to late September 2016 with trains running between Gospel Oak and South Tottenham during weekdays, and a full closure of the line from October 2016 to early February 2017" No mention of benefits of electrified route for freight. Why should it? Surely the point of the press release is to make the travelling public aware that their journeys are going to be disrupted so they can plan appropriately. A container of hoes (other garden tools are available) has no such concerns. |

How will the bridge at Bakers Arms be affected?

cables and stanchions installed. The bridges which need a re-build are, I assume, those which go over the railway and currently do not provide adequate head room. I wonder if, when the platforms are prepared for longer trains, the entire platform will be re-furbished or only enough for 4-car trains. Many of the platforms are long enough for 6-car trains. It might be a short-sighted approach to cater only for 4-car trains. |

I'm surprised they are not making them 5-car so they can pool spare units with the North London Line (I assume they are connected at Clapham Junction). |

The bridges which need a re-build are, I assume, those which go over the railway and currently do not provide adequate head room. I rewatched the NR video clip the other day. It shows roughly where the bridge replacements will be. There's the big one at Upper Holloway which TfL are already working on. There seem to be one or two east of S Tottenham - presumably the two knackered bridges over part of the Lea navigation and then several towards Wanstead / Woodgrange Park. Most of those latter ones are where the railway goes over a road given the line is on an embankment. Presumably this just reflects the fact that those assets are at the end of their life - like so many other bridges on the line that have been replaced / upgraded in recent years. I wonder if, when the platforms are prepared for longer trains, the entire platform will be re-furbished or only enough for 4-car trains. Many of the platforms are long enough for 6-car trains. It might be a short-sighted approach to cater only for 4-car trains. I think they're only catering for 4 car trains because Gospel Oak platform can't take a 5 car train so they're not going to be running 5 cars any time soon. I understand no major works are being done at Gospel Oak given the much shorter blockade period at the west end of the line. More likely that TfL would up the frequency to 5 tph as they tend to prefer frequency increases as they drive more patronage and revenue. I wonder if the same is planned for the Watford LO service? 4x4 (or even 5x4) cars per hour would be much better than 3x5. |
