Gillespie Road Tube Station
Now that the Woolwich Wanderers will definitely be moving, what chance
is there that Gillespie Road station will be restored to its correct name by LU? Ashburton Grove will be linked in to Holloway Road station. |

Indeed, fans will be encouraged to travel to the new stadium using Finsbury Park, Arsenal and Highbury & Islington stations - but will be discouraged (not sure how!) from using Drayton Park or Holloway Road. That was certainly the case when I looked at the plans a couple of years ago. One of the alternative plans that the club rejected was a move to the King's Cross railway lands. This scheme would have included re-opening York Road station, to serve the new stadium. If this had happened, then a new name for Arsenal (nee Gillespie Road) station would have been essential. -- MetroGnome ~~~~~~~~~~ |

The fact that trains don't stop at Drayton Park at weekends is probably quite discouraging for Saturday fixtures :) Holloway Road is quite a problem because of the lifts, of course. -- Paul Terry |

I'll be interested to see how they improve Holloway Road station to cope
with the amount of people on matchdays. It's a very old station. It's only 5 minutes from the new ground, so is a better option than either of the other three within the area, although none of them are that far away. If only Spurs had more than one option than Seven Sisters. Apart from matchdays is there a more underused station than Arsenal anyway? Whenever I use it or walk past it feels like a ghost station. They must have got the bugs in that prototype fixed by now. Apart from matchdays is there a more underused station than Arsenal anyway? Yes, several. -- John Rowland - Spamtrapped Transport Plans for the London Area, updated 2001 http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro...69/tpftla.html A man's vehicle is a symbol of his manhood.
