New Route 83 Timetables

I note that, from tomorrow, bus route 83 will have a new timetable
incorporating the previous night route N83, which is being renumbered 83.

However when I downloaded the new timetable, dated 17/4/04, from TFL site,
I see that no services are listed, at least from my stops in Kingsbury Rd
NW9, between approx 1:30am and 4:30am. I this what they mean by
incorporating the night route in the day service, by cancelling all of their
night busses?

Although route 83 is supposed to be a 24-hour route now, the timetables
dated 17/4/04 still show 83 and N83, with the latter operating a service
every 30 minutes through the small hours.

I hadn't realised that you could now select a bus route number in the
Journey Planner. That's a worthwhile improvement, though still not as
good for some purposes as the complete route timetable.

in the case of routes run by First London - as the 83 is - you can see
the full timetable for every journey on
http://www.firstlondontimetables.co.uk/. An excellent source of proper
timetable information - just click on timetables and select your route
etc. The new 83 timetable is there in all its glory.

But why are TFL timetables, available for download for every stop on route,
where presumably they will be displayed, not showing the night busses?

because the journey planner doesn't work properly and I would guess that
for your example it has not been updated. I've shown you the alternative
source of info for your route - if you remain unhappy complain to TfL
Buses Customer Services department. You never know, your complaints
might make them do something to sort out the mess they have foisted on
the general public.

I would also point out that the stop specific timetables are pretty
useless and for my local route are completely wrong. Worse the
downloadable ones contradict with the stop specific information that is
actually posted at the bus stop!

I remain completely disillusioned with TfL's policy on bus information
and am pleased that I know where to get up to date and detailed
information. I just feel sorry for other bus users who do not know where
these alternatives are.

no problem but it's really the volunteer staff at First London who
deserve the credit for putting it together and maintaining it.

www.busmap.co.uk and
www.londonbusroutes.net also have links to timetables for all London Bus
routes. Both enthusiast sites but fully comprehensive.

Paul raises an interesting point here.
The First London site is one of the best around.
It appears from reading the input and from some individual knowledge that
First London employs a few staff who are actually enthusiastic about what
they do.
This business of Public Transport does attract a very specific breed of
individual to its employ.
Many of them(us) are simply unemployable in any other field and Accountancy
simply is incapable of reaching their (our) sensory banks.
However there are many too who are sent to the Public Transport front by
faceless beurocrats in Job.Centres who have no knowledge or interest in the
destructive capacity of a non-performer in a Public Facing role......
Full Credit to First London for allowing their enthusiast employees a bit of
Leeway....!!

Thanks for that too.
Shame it's the enthusiasts who put the professionals to shame...

I live about 1½ miles from the 83 (6 stops on the Metroline 302 to Mr
Myers' stated boarding point)
