I must point out to anyone unfamiliar with this stretch of the
railway, that the over-use of the zoom distorts enormously
the layout of the route. The curve just east of Leytonstone
High Road Station is nothing like as severe as suggested and
the gradient west of the station does not drop down in the
manner shown..

I notice that in the current issue of Rail Christian Wolmar is
very critical of the way the GOBLIN electrification has been
handled.

So why are they talking about halving frequency from March 18th if the
new trains are good to go? Or is that now scrapped?

Of course, that's going to be even more frustrating for passengers
suffering a 2tph service, as they watch the empty new trains running
through, and even stopping, at their stations without the doors opening.

I would have thought it ought to have been possible to train a few Goblin
drivers on the new trains while they've been test running on the WCML. That
might have allowed a couple (ideally three) of the new trains to enter
service next week.

I've yet to see this authorised and functioning 710 so
perhaps it's being used for crew training now.

Yes. I think they've been test running at night on the line for a few
weeks, followed by a diesel Thunderbird loco at first. Presumably it's now
reliable enough to run among service trains without an accompanying rescue
loco. There have been several units on test, not sure how many on the
Goblin.

The good news is that if the problems are purely in the TMS software, it
shouldn't take long to bring all the delivered units (six?) up to spec.

The weekly TfL newsletter says:
"From Monday 18 March, there will be a reduced weekday service between
Gospel Oak and Barking. Trains will run about every 30 minutes. A reduced
service will continue on this route every day until further notice, due to
a lack of available trains. For weekday train times, check our temporary
timetable. "

It's not really: the three 4-car 378s were already in service on the line.
All that changes from today is that the last three 172s have gone.

Yesterday I saw my first real, live 710 in action! I had just arrived
on Platform 1 at Leytonstone High Road, the westbound platform,
and a 710 was approaching eastbound at about 45 mph. It went
straight through the station and then performed an emergency
stop. It stopped very quickly and clearly the 710s have good brakes.
I was impressed. After about three seconds, it continued on its way.
