LU Stock Transfer Routes
Anyone tell me anything about the stretch of line which links the District
with the East London Line? Is it entirely in tunnel and double-tracked? How long is it? Where does it branch off from the District and where does it join the East London? Has its use always been restricted to one train in one direction at a time because of tight clearance? Has anyone on the group travelled it over it? And where else on LU are there similar non-passenger stretches to allow for stock transfers etc.? -- gordon |

Other transfer lines at: Kings Cross (Picadilly - Northern) Baker St (Bakerloo - Jubilee, once passenger-carrying when the Stanmore branch was Bakerloo) Finsbury Park (Picadilly - Victoria) and, once upon a time, Finsbury Park (GN&C - Northern at Highgate). Where does it branch off from the District and where does it join the East London? This is St Mary's Curve, which leaves the District, in a southerly direction, by a facing junction, when travelling EB, between the old St Mary's Station and Whitechapel. Have a look at this very good site http://www.trainweb.org/tubeprune/ro...20diagrams.htm Has its use always been restricted to one train in one direction at a time because of tight clearance? Baker St, between Bakerloo and Jubilee. Finsbury Park, Vic- Pic. -- Lawrence Myers |

message ... Has its use always been restricted to one train in one direction at a time because of tight clearance? No. This restriction appears to date from approximately the time of the East London Line Closure. I can't remember if it was just before, during or just after. Has anyone on the group travelled it over it? Yes; last year's East London Explorer railtour, operated by Cravens Heritage Trains, ran over it in both directions. I have also seen material which suggest that football specials from Surrey Quays have taken passengers over it; I've no idea what (if) that ceased happening. |

Also remember the "Met Link" at Ruislip. This is from Ruislip Siding on the
Met into Ruislip Central Line depot - about the most well used link by Engineering Trains. There is also the link at Ealing Broadway, seldom used, but Plat 7 at Ealing Broadway still has Central Line ATP test coils fitted and maintained for trains crossing to the Central. Wasn't there a connection from just north of Drayton Park up to the GN main
line, and thence to the Northern at Highgate/Finchley, which was used for stock transfers up till the late 50's when the BR freight connection was closed? From then until the transfer of the GN&C to BR in the 70's, how was LT stock on the Moorgate line moved for major overhauls? "Boltar" wrote in message om... (PhilD) wrote in message om... Finsbury Park (Picadilly - Victoria) And which AFAIK is the only place on the deep level tube lines where trains from different lines run side by side underground and can have a "race" albeit for only a short distance before the tunnels diverge again. and, once upon a time, Finsbury Park (GN&C - Northern at Highgate). That was a foot interchange , it wasn't a physical link between the actual lines. That was at east finchley. B2003 |

The restriction presumably arises from the introduction of 'A' stock on the
East London line. This has a somewhat wider loading gauge than normal sub-surface stock, and is not normally operated east of Aldgate. "David Splett" wrote in message ...
