Parking in Mayfair

Hi,

I have an appointment to make in Mayfair at 9:00am. There's no local train
station to me, so trains are out.

Is there anywhere to park in Mayfair? Or is this area of London the sole
monopoly of rich hotels and £100 per hour valet parking?

Has anyone been to Mayfair before? Parking... what's it like?

Thanks!

LF

Or parking meters. You'd do better to drive to your nearest station,
even if not very local, and come in on the train. Or drive to a Tube
station on the outskirts of London and park there for the day. Probably
work out cheaper, AND you wouldn't have to pay the congestion charge.

Depends where you are coming from, drive to a tube station outside london,
park, then tube in.

Hmmm, I'm coming from the West - down the M3 or the M4. Any ideas? I don't
think I can park at Waterloo...

Park at the underground car park on Park Lane underneath Hyde Park. It's
pretty easy to get to from the M40 - via A40(M) and Lancaster Gate.

Thanks all to the advice.

I'm coming from Farnborough, and I'll be travelling with a couple of heavy
bags for a presentation. I actually did a reccé trip tonight, the traffic
wasn't bad, but it wasn't rush hour. There was a set of parking meters there
for £4 for one hour, just as you said.

I'm planning on driving in - and getting there very early. Am also
considering possibly taking the train - but don't want to mess about with
the underground, etc - on a hot day and I also have other places I need to
go (outside of London).

I'm suprised there isn't a decent multistorey nearby. Or is there? (NCP
anybody?)

Most of the car parks are underground (rather than overground). The one
under the Park is by far the cheapest though.

If you type "NCP Mayfair" into Google you get one two blocks south of
Grosvenor Sq. It would appear to be under the Millennium Hotel.

Type W1K 2HP into:

http://www.ncp.co.uk/page.aspx?theLa...nterID=CARPARK

1 Hour £ 5.50
1 to 2 Hours £ 10.00
2 to 4 Hours £ 20.00
4 to 6 Hours £ 27.50
6 to 24 Hours £ 38.50

And you'll need to pay the Congestion Charge too.

I think your cheapest and most reliable option would be a train from
Farnborough to Waterloo, and a taxi from Waterloo to your destination.

Mike Hopkins? Have you just bought a new laptop, perchance? If not, don't
worry - you have the same name as someone I know!

Taxi to Farnborough, Train to Waterloo, Taxi to Mayfair... could be a little
too much. I'm planning on driving early down to Mayfair, and then getting a
taxi from a carpark to the destination or taking a short walk.

Bit of a nightmare, this London, isn't it?

Anyone who's tired of London has been there fore more then a weekend

Hey, I like it. I've been there for two years (although not at the
moment). Mind you I walk into uni so I never have transport woes. The
buses are cheap, the tube is cheap at weekends and I only drive in
London twice a year to take my stuff to/from uni. Living is expensive
but you're living in one of the greatest cities in the world. Be proud! :-)

Thanks for everyones advice, it's very appreciated and gives me a nice warm
feeling inside :P Seriously - I hope it's all worth it, this journey!

NCP entrance just off northbound carriageway of Park lane - huge
underground car park. get up to the surface and then hail a cab to take
you the last bit of your journey if you can't manage the tube with your
bags etc.

I think I'll do just that.

It's school holidays at the moment so probably not as bad as usual on
the roads but I would suggest leaving Farnborough no later than 7am.

I'm leaving at 5:30am. That way, I can pick up something to eat when I'm
there, without rushing.

I used to work on Hawley Lane in Farnborough!

Ahhh :) That's a big lane :P Farnborough's not a bad place to work at all,
really.

Expensive, smelly and (in places) v. dodgy!

I do like London for day trips out. The museums are hard to beat, and the
cafés, restaurants, bars and pubs are also pleasent around the tourist trap
areas. For work, it's probably the worst place I've ever had to work - and
that was just the suburbs!

Shall you stay, do you think, once you have got your degree? Husband
came over to do a Masters at Imperial about 30 years ago or more and has
never gone home (he's originally from Northern Ireland). I came after 4
years in Paris, also nearly 30 years ago (oh help!) and have never left.
The daughter, however, after 19 years in London fled to York and has
never been back!

I was born and brought up in London. I followed your daughter's course,
but got out slightly earlier at 18.

After over 25 years working in Cambridge I started working (part time) in
London in 2001.
