Route 49 DD

I travelled on the 49 on Saturday, pleased to see that at last it's
changed to double-deckers instead of jam-packed single-deckers.

Unfortunately it seemed to have moved to pretty packed double-deckers
instead!! I assume this was partly due to the weekend closure of the
District & Circle lines, with passengers travelling between High St
Kensington & Gloucester Road / South Kensington.

However, not as many people got off at either of these stops as I
expected; certainly at Gloucester Road a very significant number of
people got on, and they can't have been using it just to get to South
Kensington. I got off there so I don't know where everyone was going.

If the large number of people using the route was due to the engineering
works, then that's understandable; however if it wasn't, then TfL will
have to look at bolstering frequency on this route as well as having
introduced DDs.

Yes, at long, long last the 49 appears to have finally been upgraded to double decker
status!

After years of travelling on packed single deckers (often passing stops between
Battersea Latchmere-Kings Road) it is now *an absolute pleasure* to get on the 49 and
to be able to find a seat. Real buses have arrived, no doubt due to clear demand (and
numerous 'on-bus passenger surveys' over the years). For a long time routes 49, 344,
345 were all single deckers = miserable journey each morning/evening. Now people in
the local area no longer have to put up with being packed into single decker cattle
trucks every day, common sense at last - thank you TfL!!
