AIUI the branch is now worked as a siding, with a single platform at the terminus. Does Esher retain platforms on the Fast Lines? It used to have some Race Platforms as well as platforms on the 4 through lines. Twickenham used to have several more platforms than the 3 (?) used now. Peter |

Wasn't it a fire at the local signal box which reduced it to single line working? Later, the line was shortened back and the original land sold to build a small housing estate on. This I have seen recently. Timbo |

"John Turner" wrote in message . .. Kensington Olympia? It's in W14, not KT, and still has 3 platforms (the OP specified fewer than 3, which cuts out my suggestion of Twickenham) - 2 for National Rail and 1 for LUL. Not far away is Willesden Junction (NW10), which at its peak had around 15 platforms, and now has 5. Peter |

Peter Yes Peter you were right the first time, Epsom Downs is the station I was thinking of, cut down from 9 platforms plus 8 or so sidings, and a turntable when it was built to the current single line. I was shown round the huge signal box by a bored signalman thirty years ago and couldn't believe its magnitude, levers everywhere. http://www.wymann.info/EpsomDowns/EpsomDowns.html http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/s...s/index4.shtml -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

The new 'station house' didn't survive long in railway use - it's a nursery (as in little kiddies not plants) now. Chris |

"Troy Steadman" replied to "titans" who wrote How does a reduction in platforms correlate to declining passenger numbers? Is this a serious question or are you being funny? Increased use of fewer platforms *could* actually mean an upsurge in passengers. John. |

Peter And long overdue to have 4 of them reinstated. When you consider how much money was squandered on the West Coast upgrade thet they couldn't have found a few hundred thou to build a worthwhile interchange. Also when you consider the promises that TOCs have had to make to get franshises and Silverlink have done nothing. Kevin |
