Hi all,
This bus route is one-way, and is wide enough for two lanes. However, a series of bollards and the like prevent one lane from being used, effectively turning it into a single lane road. There never seems to be any parking on the closed lane, and I suspect it is banned. There is very little pedestrian traffic along the road, except at the 2 zebra crossings. Buses often get stuck in the traffic queue here, and could benefit from a bus lane where the unusable lane is now. I can't see why the road isn't two-way, or one-way with a bus lane. Does anyone know why it is the way it is? I can't think of any similar road anywhere. -- John Rowland - Spamtrapped Transport Plans for the London Area, updated 2001 http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro...69/tpftla.html A man's vehicle is a symbol of his manhood. That's why my vehicle's the Piccadilly Line - It's the size of a county and it comes every two and a half minutes |

anyone know why it is the way it is? I can't think of any similar road anywhere. I recall (20+ years ago) this road was two lanes but still part of the one-way system. It was made single lane after several cars ended up in the front rooms of the houses at the 90 degree bend (outside the town park entrance). The brickwork flowerbed was constructed and the left lane fitted with bollards to make it cycle only. I guess now they'd just put a camera up to slow people down. Then it was all done with design ![]() Regards, Dave |
