In message , John Rowland
writes Anyway, I'm still surprised that T4 station is closing to passengers a whole day before the engineering possession starts. Some of the wheelchair passengers who decide to get the tube to T123 and then the HEx to T4 will end up being taken non-stop through the T4 station. They'll be rather annoyed, especially if they miss their planes because they didn't know in advance that the possession was taking place. And they'll be even more annoyed if they ever find out that LU shut T4 station a day early just so they can get their trains all pointing the "right way around", when every Picc depot seems to have coped fine with trains in random directions every night since 1987. But the difference is that after the 7th, they won't have any way to turn them if they need them the other way, except a long drawn out special working. Currently, if they need one turned round (which is quite common) they get a spare man to run it round the loop out of service. -- Steve Fitzgerald has now left the building. You will find him in London's Docklands, E16, UK (please use the reply to address for email) |

Only those that need to be turned around will do so, the others will go to T123 without going around the loop. So, only some of the passengers will sent through a closed station. How many trains are which way round? Presumably about half and half now but won't they try to turn them in the last few days of service? Well. In theory, but it wouldn't work in practice, as each time the train goes to heathrow it gets turned around..... so they can only realisticaly do it on the one day when the loop is still "open" but the station at T4 won't be. |

Isn't this just another exemplification of what lay behind my original posting in this thread: the utter contempt in which passengers are held? Wouldn't it be so much nicer for the Underground and the twits that seem to run it, to have rid of passengers altogether? They have - we're called "Customers" now, which doesn't imply that we're actually going to travel anywhere! -- "Mrs Redboots" http://www.amsmyth.demon.co.uk/ Website updated 18 December 2004 |

I know vehicles are expected to conform once it becomes reasonable for non-compliant ones to have been replaced, but stations etc? Hey, you're the lawyer. I only got a law degree over 30 years ago. :-) Colin, I am writing as a transport enthusiast and layman (not as a criminal barrister!) but I thought that the legislation applied to all buildings to which the public have access; if that is so it must include railway and Underground stations etc. My law Degree is almost 20 years old now! I got it at a time when jury trial was sacrosanct, innocence till found guilty, no dentention without trial, Cabinet government, no restrospective legislation .... How old-fashioned all of this now seems! Marc. |
