Scotch Corner on Saturday 28 May
Due to road works in Knightsbridge the traffic flowing West from Hyde Park
Corner along the A4 down the Brompton Road was failing to clear the yellow box where Sloane Street fed into Scotch Corner. As many reading this will know this is a notorious bottleneck for traffic and bus routes 19, 22 and 137 as Sloane Street gets such a short go a the lights and then has to execute a strange roundabout like manoeuvre to make a "right turn". The result on Saturday was that just a few vehicles were actually able to make use of each "green" cycle of the traffic lights due to the yellow box junction illegally being blocked. Hence there were massive delays with bus passengers all decamping to make for the tube or complete there journey on foot. I saw three number 22s all trapped in along Sloane Street - even though the work had up to then been working well with evenly spaced departures from Putney Common. One traffic policeman simply ensuring that this one critical yellow box was kept clear would have prevented three main London bus routes being totally disrupted and eased what turned into major (and totally unnecessary disruption) for the journeys of many people. |

Sounds like you should nominate this junction for a box junction camera
to prevent such a blockage. David. |
