Piccadilly Line today
 

Morning all,

Just got in from work helping sort out this mornings service on the Picc, we
plan to be running...
A three train shuttle between Cockfosters and Arnos Grove.
A special bus service between Arnos Grove and Finchley Central for the
Northern Line.
A twenty train Hyde Park Corner to Heathrow 123 service.
A four train shuttle between Acton Town and Rayners Lane.
No news as yet as to when we'll be able to resume through running.

On a slightly more cheerful note, as I was waiting for the 184 to get home
this morning, one of the rail replacement buses turned up as a Route Master
(CLT 69). I got a photo of it, so if anyone would like a copy, drop me an
e-mail (mind the spam trap) with a valid return address and I'll send it
over.

This is a really nice old one with proper tungsten lights
It was slightly surreal riding it right near home a few weeks ago from
acton to northoilt on the A 40 on rail replacementn for central line

No news as yet as to when we'll be able to resume through running.

Probably a long time. I suspect its a right mess in that tunnel at
Kings X.
This is a time when some reversing sidings at Finsbury would come in
useful as the trains could run that far then people could get the
victoria
line.

Just a note to say heartfelt thanks for all you and your colleagues have
done - it has been really heroic.

I've managed to avoid using public transport in London today, but I did
have to use bus services yesterday and, while it was pretty hellish,
everyone managed with typically British stoicism, and even some wry
humour as we all crashed into each other on grossly over-laden buses
that seemed determined to get through.

TFL employees - we are proud of you!

Great work. Full kudos to all TfL, infraco, and bus company people for
getting things up and running again on Friday.

piccadily that could run.when the police release KX cross platforms

i seem to remember a crossover just north of KX

The cross over is south of the station, you have to continue towards
RSq some distance before you can reverse back northbound.

No - the damage between KX and Rus Sq is apparently the worst of all
three locations. While KX station will probably get up and running
fairly quickly I would imagine that the Picc Line will be out for a long
while. There are no dates for a resumption of service yet at any of
three sites.

There used to be a cross over at Covent Garden but that was removed. It
would also be a nightmare to detrain at Covent Garden given there are
lifts to get people out and it's too busy with a normal service. There
is a siding at Wood Green but that is north facing and would be
difficult to use and running South to Wood Green does not add a lot to
people's journey options. It's a shame that Picc Line trains cannot get
to Green Park to turn round as that would improve connectivity in the
centre but could be counter productive if too many people tried to use
Green Park station.

I think the Victoria Line is going to resemble hell on earth from Monday
as Picc Line passengers are either being bussed to Seven Sisters (Bound
Green and south) or else if they use WAGN they will probably try to use
Finsbury Park / Highbury to enter the Tube network if KX Tube remains
closed. Let's hope the Victoria Line does not have one of its "weeks
from hell" any time soon.

Extra buses seem to be being drafted in to supplement route 91 which
parallels the Picc Line quite closely as well the 205 which closely
follows the Northern stretch of the Circle Line. Met trains are now
running through to Moorgate and KX Met Line station is open.

"Damage," of course, needs to be quantified. Tim O'Toole today
confirmed that the tunnel itself is intact - or at least, presumably,
not beyond severed cables, etc. - so the issue is more the removal of
the train.

I'm trying to think of precedents, but there aren't really any beyond
the Second World War in general, and Moorgate in 1975 (there seems to
be little about Stratford in 1953 to a degree that I'm not sure if it
was actually in tunnel at the time). Far greater damage than could
ever possibly have occurred in this case was caused at Balham and
Bounds Green, and through services resumed within two months and in
two months and three days respectively, although obviously there was
no need in either to extricate a train, and to do so forensically.

I would imagine most of the extra traffice will be using WAGN services
into London. Indeed with the close proximity of WAGN to the Piccadilly
Line between Bounds Green and Fisnbury Park along with the high number
of parlell bus services means most of the extra traffice will happen on
these services instead of using the Victoria from Seven Sisters, though
south of Finsbury Park it will be a lot busier then usual.

Moorgate. People who usually use the Piccadilly line presumably want to go
to King's Cross, Bloomsbury, Holborn or the west end; WAGN trains aren't
going to help them. The Victoria line, on the other hand, even if it
doesn't go exactly where they want, at least gets them to the right end of
town.

If WAGN ran extra weekday services into King's Cross, that might pick up
more of the load, but it would still leave people at KX with only the Met
and buses for onward connections, at least until the KX tube station
reopens.

Thinking about it, i suppose people could go by train to Moorgate, then
walk to Liverpool Street and hop on the Central line. I doubt people would
do that rather than use the Victoria line, though.

Not all of them. There are several slow trains that go into King's Cross on
weekday mornings. Fewer in the evening though.

"People who usually use the Piccadilly" could be heading _anywhere_,
e.g. to change to the Victoria at Finsbury Park, or the Northern at
K-X.
