You are quite right that the police must learn things from this
incident. But so must everyone else. And perhaps the most important
thing to learn is that there is almost never a situation in which one
party to an incident is 100% to blame for what happens.

Whatever the rights or wrongs of the incident, it's a little difficult to
learn lessons when you've had seven bullets launched into your head.
